ESPN reports that the 33-year-old picked up a left thigh injury after just 34 minutes and had to be withdrawn from Wednesday night's Serie A game. The former Barcelona man had only returned from an issue in the same area as a substitute against Fluminense last weekend.

Neymar, who began the game with both legs visibly strapped, was wearing a special number 100 shirt to commemorate his 100th appearance at Vila Belmiro – Santos' stadium. The former Al-Hilal man has had an injury-hit couple of years so this latest setback is a real blow.

Santos' victory took them one point clear of the Serie A relegation zone after four matches. Neymar's side now have one win, one draw, and two losses in their first season back in the Brazilian top-flight.
